Iowa dentist disciplined for unsanitary practice conditions – Becker’s Dental Review

The Iowa Dental Board recently fined a West Des Moines dentist $2,000 after finding multiple infection control violations at his practice, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported July 15.

Harry Nguyen, DDS, was cited for failing to maintain adequate safety and sanitary conditions and for failing to comply with standard precautions for preventing and controlling infectious diseases. Violations included a lack of biohazard markings on containers, dirty instruments being transported from the operating room without covers, incomplete spore testing records and dental staff cleaning operatories without the required certification or supervision.

In addition to paying the $2,000 fine, Dr. Nguyen must complete a remedial education program focused on infection control and ethics.

At the Becker’s 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
