LOUISVILLE, Ky.—PDS Optical, a provider of prescription eyeglasses to U.S. veterans, announced that it has shipped its one-millionth pair of prescription eyeglasses to the nation’s veterans this year. PDS Optical, which has served U.S. veterans for more than 25 years, is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business that manufactures the majority of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) prescription eyeglass market nationwide, fulfilled by its local Louisville and Fort Lauderdale workforce, according to the announcement.
“Hitting 1 million pairs is far more than just a number for us; it represents 1 million veterans with clearer vision,” said Sean Loosen, CEO of PDS Optical. “This achievement reflects the hard work of our teams in Louisville and Fort Lauderdale. As we look ahead, we will keep pushing to create high-quality eyewear for our nation’s valued veterans with pride, dignity, and exceptional service.”
In February 2026, PDS Optical announced the development and deployment of the Perfect Drying System, a device that is transforming the company’s production capabilities by revolutionizing the lens-drying and verification process. The system has led to significant improvements in efficiency and quality by increasing production volume, saving 80 hours of labor a week, and reducing lens breakage, the company said.
In addition to manufacturing innovations, the company said it is making an impact in the optical industry through research. In early July 2026, it launched the Pulse On Digital Strain survey, the nation’s first research study measuring how digital screen time impacts veterans’ vision. Findings from the survey will help the company better understand how to serve the nation’s veterans in an increasingly digital world, the announcement noted.
