NEWARK, N.J.—Vision Monday’s signature annual report on the Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailers is being published today for the first time as a digital only publication on VisionMonday.com. The 2026 report, which examines companies’ sales and location counts for the country’s leading retailers, including mass merchants and warehouse clubs, is based on calendar year 2025 information and VM estimates. The collective sales of VM’s Top 50 U.S. Retailers rose 6.4 percent in 2025 compared with 2024, to reach an estimated $22,314.3 million across 16,777 locations, the report shows. The Top 10 retailers represented 83.8 percent of the total sales for the Top 50.
In 2025, optical retailers addressed a budget-conscious consumer landscape by prioritizing affordable eyecare portfolios and personalized patient experiences. While managing the increasing popularity of smart eyewear, these businesses also contended with a volatile global economy, staffing hurdles, and rapid technological shifts. Furthermore, capital was directed toward AI throughout 2025, an investment trend that most retailers expect will persist throughout 2026. In addition, several of the retailers featured in this year’s Top 50 informed VM that they are prioritizing infrastructure improvements and investments in personnel through education and training as part of a broader strategy to enhance staff retention.
