Eyebot Appoints Kiyo Gomi as Chief Operating Officer to Lead Next Phase of Growth

BOSTON—Eyebot, developer of automated vision testing kiosks that offer doctor-verified eyeglass prescriptions, has appointed long-standing team member Kiyo Gomi to the role of chief operating officer, the company announced yesterday. In this role, he will oversee company operations as Eyebot accelerates the nationwide expansion of its kiosk network. As one of Eyebot’s earliest employees, Gomi, who joined the company in 2022, has led initiatives across finance, customer discovery, clinical operations, regulatory processes and human resources, helping transform Eyebot from an emerging startup into a growing vision care platform, the company stated.

Since joining Eyebot, Gomi has played a central role in building the foundation for Eyebot’s growth, the company advised. The promotion is effectively immediately.

“Kiyo has helped build nearly every aspect of this company from the ground up,” said Matthias Hofmann, CEO and co-founder of Eyebot. “As we enter a new phase of growth, we need a leader who understands the details of our operations, the scale of our ambition and the DNA of our mission.

“Kiyo has consistently demonstrated the ability to build systems, solve complex challenges and keep our mission at the center of every decision,” Hofmann continued. “He’s the right person to help us bring accessible vision care to communities across the country.”

The promotion comes as demand grows for more convenient and affordable access to vision care, the company said. Eyebot’s automated kiosks allow eligible adults aged 18 to 64 years to receive a doctor-reviewed eyeglass prescription without an appointment, which the company said makes vision testing more accessible in retail environments where consumers already shop.

A lifelong eyeglass wearer, Gomi was drawn to Eyebot by its mission to make vision care easier to access, the company said. In his new role, he will focus on strengthening the company’s operational capabilities as the kiosk network expands, including field deployment, service and maintenance operations, customer support, partner success and team development. He will also lead efforts to improve efficiency and consistency across the business, ensuring the company can scale while maintaining a high-quality customer experience.

“Vision correction has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, so Eyebot’s mission has always felt deeply personal to me,” said Gomi. “We’ve proven that there is strong demand for a faster, more convenient way to access vision care. My focus now is building the systems, teams and partnerships that will allow us to bring that experience to significantly more people while maintaining the reliability and quality our customers expect.”

As Eyebot continues expanding into leading optical retailers and other high-traffic locations nationwide, the company said it remains focused on making vision testing more convenient, affordable and accessible while encouraging consumers to maintain regular comprehensive eyecare with an eyecare professional.

Founded in 2021, Eyebot combines vision technology with clinical oversight, offering doctor-verified eyeglass prescriptions through its automated vision test kiosks that are currently found in optical retail locations throughout the U.S. In January, the company announced a new partnership with The Framery, an online platform for prescription glasses at 1-800 Contacts, to offer a joint, end-to-end optical retail experience, which is expected to launch later this year.
