FRANKLIN, Mass.—Heidelberg Engineering, a provider of ophthalmic imaging and healthcare data solutions, has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its latest version of Spectralis software, which introduces a 250 kHz scan speed for OCT angiography and enhanced TruTrack Active Eye Tracking. These advancements enable clinicians to perform faster, more precise retinal imaging, the company said, improving diagnostic confidence and patient outcomes. The software also includes the Green Autofluorescence Module, which expands multimodal imaging capabilities.

“This new Spectralis software release reflects our continued commitment to advancing ophthalmic imaging,” said Holger Ruchatz, head of product management at Heidelberg Engineering. “By bringing together speed, precision, and multimodal imaging, it is designed to support clinicians in visualizing and assessing retinal disease.”

The new version of Spectralis, featuring SHIFT technology, provides clinicians with a versatile multi-speed approach to OCTA imaging, the company noted. In addition to the existing 85 kHz and 125 kHz scan speeds, the latest release introduces a 250 kHz option. This 250 kHz speed, supported by upgraded TruTrack Active Eye Tracking, represents the fastest OCTA acquisition available on the Spectralis platform and is designed to streamline clinical workflows, Heidelberg said. By offering a variety of scan speeds, the software enables practitioners to optimize imaging for individual patients, effectively balancing the need for rapid acquisition with the requirement for precise clinical detail.

The Green Autofluorescence Module enhances macular visualization, aiding in the identification of foveal sparing and quantification of atrophy via RegionFinder. Combined with BluePeak imaging, this provides comprehensive insights into retinal structure and metabolic changes for improved diagnosis and monitoring, the announcement said.

Additional features further support clinical workflow, patient comfort, and advanced imaging capabilities. The commercial launch is planned for the second half of the year, the company advised.

In January of 2026, Heidelberg Engineering announced the appointment of Jeff Sieve as president of Heidelberg Engineering, Inc., U.S.
