MILAN, Italy: The 2026 International Symposium on Dental Hygiene (ISDH) is bringing together dental hygienists, clinicians, educators, researchers and other oral healthcare professionals from around the world in Milan. Starting yesterday and running until 11 July, the event is being hosted at the Allianz MiCo convention centre and will offer cutting-edge education, networking and professional development centred on the future of preventive oral healthcare.
Under the theme “Oral Health and General Health: Prevention & Progress”, ISDH 2026 will explore the vital relationship between oral and systemic health throughout every stage of life. The scientific programme follows a life-course approach, covering childhood, adolescence, adulthood and older age, and presentations will examine prevention, patient education, personalised care, digital innovation and the growing role of dental hygienists in integrated healthcare teams.
The symposium will feature an impressive line-up of internationally recognised speakers from Europe, North America and the Middle East. Delegates can expect keynote lectures, clinical presentations and research-led discussions covering subjects such as periodontics, cariology, tobacco use, halitosis, gerodontology, salivary diagnostics, artificial intelligence in dentistry and evidence-based preventive care. The programme is designed to benefit clinicians, educators, students and researchers alike.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Jill Rethman, president of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH) commented that: “The scientific programme has something for everyone, and clinicians, educators, researchers, and students will all find educational programmes to enhance their knowledge and skills. With focused programmes related to all stages of life, attendees will find engaging sessions on topics related to oral health during childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age.”
Special sessions
Alongside the main scientific programme, ISDH 2026 will offer a range of special sessions designed to encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange. Interactive poster presentations will showcase the latest research across all life stages, and dedicated innovation and project sessions will provide opportunities to explore emerging technologies, clinical advances and evolving models of patient care. These sessions will allow delegates to engage directly with the presenters as well as discover ideas that are directly relevant to clinical practice.
Gala dinner
A highlight of the social programme is the gala dinner on Friday at the elegant Villa ReNoir in Legnano. An evening of fine dining, entertainment and networking in a memorable setting will offer delegates the opportunity to strengthen professional relationships beyond the lecture halls. Coach transfers between the convention centre and the dinner venue will be available for attendees’ convenience. The opening ceremony, welcome reception and networking events will further underscore the symposium’s international character and celebrate the global dental hygiene community.
