DALLAS—SightGlass Vision, a joint venture of CooperCompanies and EssilorLuxottica, has been named a finalist for Healthtech Company of the Year at this year’s UK Business Tech Awards. The company said the awards recognize organizations driving meaningful innovation in health technology.
SightGlass Vision added that the nomination comes amid significant momentum for the company. The company’s DOT spectacle lenses, which use contrast management to slow myopia progression in children, recently surpassed two million wearers. New two-year data from the company’s clinical trial in China showed the lenses reduced myopia progression by more than 1 diopter on average in children ages 6 to 10, according to SightGlass Vision.
Founded in 2016, SightGlass Vision develops science-based treatments to address the global public health challenge of myopia. Its DOT spectacle lenses, based on genetic discoveries and supported by clinical trials, launched in 2021 as the first lenses designed to slow myopia progression through contrast management.
Following the announcement, SightGlass Vision shared in a blog post that the nomination represents more than a single accolade.
“Being shortlisted for this award is a proud moment and a reminder of how much further we can go,” said Andrew Sedgwick, SightGlass Vision’s CEO. “We are committed to making DOT lenses a go-to approach for myopia control here in the UK, and this recognition reinforces that we are on the right path.”
The company said the nomination reflects what a small team has built around a first-of-its-kind treatment for a condition affecting millions of children, supported by rigorous science and a commitment to making the technology available to eyecare professionals.
