SightGlass Vision’s DOT Spectacle Lenses Reach Milestone of Over Two Million Wearers

DALLAS—SightGlass Vision, a joint venture of CooperVision, Inc. and EssilorLuxottica focused on developing science-based treatments for the global myopia epidemic, has announced that two million children worldwide have now worn DOT spectacle lenses, reaching this milestone less than a year after surpassing the one million mark. Powered by Diffusion Optics Technology, DOT lenses correct vision and are designed to slow myopia progression through contrast management, according to the announcement. “Two million children in DOT lenses is a powerful reminder of why we do this work, and a testament to the need for this safe and effective myopia control treatment,” said Andrew Sedgwick, CEO of SightGlass Vision.

“We’re proud that so many eyecare professionals trust DOT lenses to correct their young patients’ vision today and help reduce future eye health risks, and reaching this milestone only energizes us further to work alongside the clinicians who are pushing the field forward,” Sedgwick said.

The lenses’ performance is rooted in research showing that contrast levels of artificial versus natural environments may lead to very different levels of eye growth. To mimic more natural contrast, DOT lenses’ unique design integrates thousands of elements that softly scatter light before it hits the retina, the announcement noted. SightGlass Vision recently introduced its Control the Contrast professional education campaign to help more eyecare professionals understand and apply this science.

“In my practice, DOT lenses have been one of the easiest myopia-control options for children to adapt to,” said Teddy Chow at The Chow Eye Institute, one of the earliest adopters of DOT lenses in Canada. “Most kids stop noticing them within days and simply wear them as their everyday glasses. In today’s crowded field of myopia treatments, that counts for a lot. As I tell many parents, it isn’t about which option edges out another on paper; the best treatment is always the one a child will actually wear, consistently. For the right patients, DOT lenses do both: clear, comfortable vision kids are happy to wear, and the reassurance for parents that their child’s myopia is being actively managed.”

“Parents are often surprised to learn how quickly myopia can progress in young children. Screen time has accelerated what was already a growing concern across the U.K., and that makes early intervention more important than ever,” added Craig McArthur at Peter Ivins Eye Care, one of the first practices prescribing DOT lenses with contrast management in the U.K. “DOT lenses fill the need for an easy and highly effective solution to offer families, and having strong clinical evidence behind that recommendation gives us greater confidence in those conversations with parents.”

DOT lenses first became available in 2021 and have since made their commercial debut in Canada, China, Israel, Spain, and the U.K., with additional market introductions anticipated in 2026.

In March, SightGlass Vision announced two key leadership appointments: David Webley was named senior director, clinical, medical and professional affairs; and Fabio Carta took on the new position of director, professional affairs.
