CUXHAVEN, Germany: Dental products manufacturer VOCO and 3D printer manufacturer Formlabs have announced a new partnership that enables VOCO’s V-Print materials to now be used on the Form 4B 3D printer. According to the companies, the collaboration expands the choice of materials for users while supporting precise, reliable results.

Composite temporary restorations made from V-Print c&b temp

Form 4B can be used to produce temporary restorations such as crowns and bridges from V-Print c&b temp. The highly filled composite is easy to process and polish and can be characterised and adapted quickly. It is resistant to discoloration, and its natural fluorescence supports high aesthetic standards. Physical properties such as a high flexural strength of 132 MPa, low wear of 119 μm and low water sorption of 18 μg/mm³ make the material suitable for long-term temporary restorations. A 500 g bottle contains enough material for around 500 crowns.

Denture bases made from V-Print dentbase

V-Print dentbase has also been validated for Form 4B and enables the production of precise denture bases for removable dentures. Unlike conventional production, additive manufacturing does not result in shrinkage, supporting an accurate fit. This helps reduce pressure spots and thus follow-up visits. The material is also compatible with conventional lining materials, and its shade supports a natural aesthetic appearance. For further optimisation, the base can be customised and characterised using composites. V-Print dentbase is available in a 1,000 g bottle.

Greater material flexibility thanks to Open Material Mode

V-Print resins are compatible with the Form 4B printer through Open Material Mode, an optional capability which is available from Formlabs and authorised dealers. An overview of the V-Print materials that can be used on Form 4B, as well as the settings for Form Cure V2, is available on VOCO’s 3D-printing partners page, www.voco.dental/3dprintingpartners.aspx.

    V-Print supports an efficient workflow

In developing the V-Print products, particular emphasis was placed on practical application in practices and laboratories, as well as on material properties intended to support patient comfort and safe clinical use. According to VOCO, because V-Print materials have high homogeneity, they require no shaking before use, support reliable printing and make vat cleaning easy. Post-polymerisation of the materials does not require an inert gas atmosphere, saving time and reducing processing costs. The materials are very low odour or odourless in both their liquid and polymerised states, making for pleasant processing and wear. V-Print materials are biocompatible medical devices that comply with US and EU regulatory requirements.
