Women In Dentistry: Two Women. One Mission. Transforming Oral Health Through AI.

Wardah Inam is CEO and co-founder of Overjet.

When Wardah Inam arrived in the United States from Pakistan to pursue her PhD at MIT, dentistry was not on her radar. AI was. But a single experience changed everything. After switching dentists and receiving a dramatically different treatment plan, she realized oral healthcare was operating more on intuition than on evidence. She co-founded Overjet in 2018 to fix that.

Today, Inam leads the #1 dental AI company in the world. Overjet’s FDA-cleared platform detects and quantifies oral diseases on x-rays with sub-millimeter precision, reaching over 100 million people across the US through its provider and insurance networks. Under her leadership, Overjet raised $133 million, reached a $550 million valuation, and earned recognition from TIMEFast Company, and EY, which named Inam 2025 Entrepreneur of the Year in the Bay Area. None of that happened by accident, but rather because she chose to solve a real clinical problem and refused to stop.

Joining her at Overjet is Dr. Natalia Chalmers, the company’s chief dental officer and one of the most credentialed voices in American oral health policy. Dr. Chalmers served as the first-ever Chief Dental Officer at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where she shaped national oral health policy and worked to integrate dental care into whole-person health frameworks across Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Before CMS, she held a Dental Officer role at the FDA. Her academic background spans a DDS from the Medical University of Sofia, a PhD in oral microbiology from the University of Maryland and NIH, a Master’s in Clinical Research from Duke, and fellowships at the Forsyth Institute and NIDCR. In 2025, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry named her Pediatric Dentist of the Year.

As part of Dentistry Today’s Women in Dentistry: CEOs & Founders podcast series, Dr. Paul Feuerstein sat down with Wardah Inam is CEO and co-founder of Overjet.

When she joined Overjet, she put it simply: “I’m inspired by the opportunity to work with extraordinary people who are using AI to make the invisible visible.”

That shared belief, that data and AI can surface what the human eye misses and that oral health is inseparable from whole-body health, is the foundation both women build from. Dr. Chalmers brings the policy expertise and clinical depth to guide how Overjet’s technology addresses care equity and diagnostic standards at scale. Inam provides the entrepreneurial engine and technical vision to make those goals real.

Overjet’s growth reflects what happens when those forces align. The platform now supports DSOs, independent practices, and insurance payers, helping clinicians detect 27% more cases of early caries and giving payers objective radiographic data to adjudicate claims accurately. The company’s pediatric AI tools, cleared to identify decay in children as young as age 4, represent the kind of long-term thinking that defines both leaders.

In dentistry, women have long done the work while being underrepresented in the rooms where decisions get made. Overjet is a different kind of room. Two women with serious scientific credentials, a shared commitment to health equity, and a company built to last are redefining what dental AI looks like at the highest level.
